Why use a Fountain pen?
A fountain pen uses a nib that has flex and moves as you move the pen. Nibs are made of gold, either 14K or 18K. The nib's tines and iridium tip cause the ink to take different shape based on what's being written. Upstrokes may look different than down strokes, and the width of the line varies constantly throughout the writing. Whatever is written seems to look more alive, to have more expression on its own. And, one can intentionally vary the width of the line by increasing or decreasing the pressure put on the nib, thus increasing or decreasing the space between the tines of the nib, and thus increasing or decreasing the amount of ink placed on the page through capillary action. The writer controls the pen, rather than the pen controlling the writer.

A fountain pen, akin to a mechanical watch is a timeless device that is now used less frequently and recently challenged by technology for practicality. Modern writing instruments like ball-points and roller balls have gained in popularity similar to that of quartz watch movements. Still Mechanical watch movements with complications and fountain pens with tuned nibs will always stand alone for those connoisseurs of high-end objets.
